Dropbox security under scrutiny

A few days ago, we read that Dropbox had been hacked and that all users who had been using the application since before 2012 were asked to change their passwords. This was a preventative measure that had nothing to do with our credentials having been stolen or with any kind of unauthorized access having occurred.

But shortly after this announcement, the app was hacked again, resulting in the leak of personal data from more than 68 million users of the platform.

It appears the problem dates back to 2012, when another cloud storage glitch allowed users to receive spam emails, an issue that sparked controversy and drew criticism from users on various social media platforms. In 2011, Dropbox also experienced a serious security breach, as for four hours all profiles on the platform could be accessed using virtually any password.

Cloud security

An employee of the platform has confirmed that 32 million of the hacked credentials are secured with bcrypt or very strong encryption, making them more protected. The remaining passwords, however, are quite vulnerable to being cracked by hackers. This was the latest massive attack by hackers this summer, although Twitter, Tumblr, and LinkedIn are also under scrutiny.

When we begin our adventure in the cloud, we are very cautious when writing down our personal data for fear of cyberattacks.,

We try to protect the data we share online as much as possible, but there comes a day when we start to let our guard down completely. And it's precisely at that moment that the risk skyrockets and your data becomes considerably exposed. One solution is to personalize your passwords on each of the social networks where you have a public profile, since this way accessing your accounts will be a bit more sophisticated and, more importantly, more secure.
